A beautiful painting from Pisarro, the subtle colour blends work perfectly on a scarf. During his lifetime Pissarro painted several series of the grands boulevards of Paris. Surveying the view while staying at the Grand Hôtel de Russie in early 1897, Pissarro marvelled that he could "see down the whole length of the boulevards" with "almost a bird's-eye view of carriages, omnibuses, people, between big trees, big houses that have to be set straight." He recorded - in two scenes of the Boulevard des Italiens to the right, and fourteen of the boulevard Montmartre to the left - a unique perspective of urban life in Paris as it unfolded below his window.

Macclesfield Printed Silk

Macclesfield was once the centre of the English silk weaving industry and the world's biggest producer of finished silk. The area has been printing silk for over 300 years and at one point had over seventy mills operating in the town. The town is close to a water supply that passes through limestone, and when used in washing and dyeing it gives silk a uniquely attractive lustre.

Our silk scarves are printed at a mill that has been producing printed fabric on the same site for the past fifty years and the process uses water sourced from its own reservoir.
